Q "I use the Billing Assistant a lot in
Timeslips. Lately when I open the Billing
Assistant, after a very long wait, I see the entire list of clients
in the database. I'm not sure why this is happening or what to
do about it!"
A The Billing
Assistant feature was changed with version 2008. You now
have the option of viewing a single client or multiple clients. You
can set your preferences to fit your work style. Click on
Setup|Preferences|Billing Assistant. Near the bottom of this dialog
box are three options: "List of ready-to-bill clients" " Single
client at a time" or "As last used."
Q "Every time I close the Report
Entry in Timeslips window after printing a bill or report, it
asks me if I want to save my settings, which I never do. Can I turn
this off?"
A Yes, from the Timeslips menu select Setup|Preferences,
then select the Interface tab. Set "Save When Switching or Closing
Reports" to" No." This will cause changes to report settings to be
discarded when you close the Report Entry window, and you will not
be prompted to save.
Q
"Can you help me run a report of all of our outstanding AR
balances? I just want client's with non-zero balances in my
report. Thanks."
A
From the Timeslips Menu, click on Reports, then Bills.
You'll see Aged AR report; double click on the name. This opens the
properties for that report
Click on the OPTIONS button near the lower left
side of the dialog box.
Under OPTIONS there are a number of options you
can choose, one is "Show value when 0". Take the check mark
out of this box. Click OK.
Now print the report.
Q "In PracticeMaster I misspelled
a Related Party's last name. How do I correct this?"
A From the
Related Party list, right-mouse-click on the misspelled name and
choose Action|Rename Related Party.
Q "How can our PracticeMaster timekeepers
track their time on a daily basis?"
A The first
thing you need to do is ensure PracticeMaster is configured to view
all time entries for a Matter (client). Traditionally, once a time
entry in PracticeMaster is saved, it is posted to Tabs3 (unless it
was created from a timer) and you can no longer view the entry in
PracticeMaster. To change this:
- Have all users exit
PracticeMaster
-
Perform a backup of
both PracticeMaster and Tabs3
-
From the Menu, click
on
Maintenance|Integration| Synchronize PM/TABS
TAS
(you'll be prompted to perform a backup, IF
you have already done a backup as instructed above, click
No here)
-
Put a " √ " in
"Convert Tabs3 archive record."
After you have
performed these steps, you can create a custom report in
PracticeMaster's Report Writer to show these time entries. Custom
reports are not difficult once you get the lay of the land. We at
IntelliWord have created this type of report and are willing to
share; give us a call.
Q "Our office
uses Amicus Attorney Small Firm linked to Timeslips for billing.
Recently our link seems to be messed up."
A There could
be a number of issues, but here is where you might start to
troubleshoot the problem:
- If NO time
entries are being transferred from Amicus to Timeslips:
The link may be broken.
Open the Amicus Administrator, click on Configure|Timesheets
to view your billing software link. If it
does not say "Timeslips," you
need to reinitialize the link. Call your consultant first! This is NOT
for the "faint of heart."
- If the link appears
to be intact, perhaps the path to the database is not correct.
In Amicus Administrator,
click on Configure| Timesheets| Posting. You should see the
path to the Timeslips database here.
In Timeslips, open
Timeslips. The database path is displayed in the Task Bar in
the lower-left-hand-corner.
These two paths should
match exactly.
-
If
the problem seems to be with only a few matters:
Were changes made to
the Client ID or Matter ID in Amicus,
or changes made to "Nick
Name 1" in Timeslips? If so, call your Consultant for help.
As you can
see, this issue may not be easily diagnosed, and a call to your Certified Consultant will save you
a lot of time troubleshooting.
